Episode 53: Lara Croft: Whimpering Idiot or Feminist Icon?

Episode 53: Lara Croft: Whimpering Idiot or Feminist Icon? (“Save As” to download or head over to iTunes to subscribe)

The episode in which we talk about Tomb Raider! It’s a long episode and the first half is us talking about what we’ve been playing (a lot apparently) and the news. In our Tomb Raider spoiler we talk about the game, the characterization of Lara, stereotypes, mechanics, and about everything else that we can think of. At the end we announce a contest for a free copy of Forza Horizon for the XBox 360. See the blog and/or listen to this episode for details about the contest that runs through Friday, May 3, 2013.

I have yet to play the new Tomb Raider, but I found your argument about what makes a positive female protagonist interesting, and it made me want to pick up the game. The last female protagonist that I felt was competent and not a bro skin appeared in Suikoden III, but that was released in 2002, so it has been a while. Transistor, by Supergiant looks to be a promising addition to strong, positive female protagonists, and I am super excited. Do you ladies know of any upcoming independent or big release games with female protagonists? By the way I love your podcast. :)

Roxanne, thanks for the comment. We love doing the podcast! I am anxious for Transistor as well. Supergiant has some real talent and I am anxious to see what they do with a female protagonist and what they make us question in the end. Take a look at my post about voice and Transistor if you haven’t already and let me know what you think :-)
